Based on the 2B Mindset, in the morning my goal is to make a breakfast that has 50% protein and 50% fiber filled carbs. Why fiber filled carbs? Because fiber allows us to feel fuller longer and provides our body with the energy it needs throughout the day. Some other important benefits of fiber are improved bowel health, lowers cholesterol, aids in improving blood sugar levels, and could even help you live longer. Some of the best fibers are found in fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, peas, and other legumes. I often try to use fruit in the morning as my fiber filled carb because they are also packed with so many other essential vitamins and nutrients your body needs to run its best. Below you'll find some of the top fiber filled fruit to start your day off with.

  1. Apples: This easy grab and go fruit has a lot of vitamin C and antioxidants. There are a variety of ways to eat an apple, cut in slices and dipped, bakes, smashed, and much more. Don't forget to keep the skin in as it contains the most fiber, more vitamin C as well as vitamins A & K, and can also help in preventing chronic diseases and promote heart health. If you've been peeling your apples, this is your sign to stop, don't miss the added health benefits!

  2. Berries: I am personally a sucker for anything berry, so learning what they are filled with fiber as well as antioxidants, I'll admit it was exciting. Making sure to start your day off with the right balance helps to set you and your body up for a successful day. Some of my personal berry favorites are strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, eat them plain, toss into a yogurt or even mix in with some oatmeal, your tastebuds will thank you.

  3. Citrus fruit: Although these types of fruit may not be top of the list for me, I cannot deny the health benefits they are packed with. Most citrus fruits have detoxification properties as well as lots of antioxidants, vitamin C, and more. Many studies have shown grapefruits to best of fruit in the citrus family, but of course you get lots on vitamins and nutrients from oranges, lemons, pomelos, and more.

Alright, lets recap! Want to feel full, satisfied, energized, and improve your body's overall health and functioning? Then it's time to start introducing more fiber to your diet!

My best advice for doing this, of course as mentioned, get your fruit on in the morning, but also be sure not to increase your fiber intake drastically, instead progressively increase it over the course of a few weeks. Also remember to be drinking plenty of water, fiber works best when it has water to absorb.
