When I started working from home, I wanted to make sure that I was still providing my little one with educational experiences and I felt confident that with my experience as an early childhood educator I could make it happen. Now this task was bigger than expected when also working full time and I tried to take on too much at once, but as most things do, it just took some time to adjust and create a plan that worked for us.
Most recently I have created a simple, budget friendly wall for us to do circle time, which includes the months of the year, days of the week, weather, letter and number of the week. There are so many variations you could add that is uniquely geared to your child but here are some ideas to start with.
Calendar
This part is personal preference to DIY or purchase a calendar set. I went the DIY route, using a downloadable calendar kit (I found mine on Teachers Pay Teachers), a laminator and sticky tac.
Weather
Incorporating talking about the weather with your children can provide multiple learning opportunities to expand on such as the four seasons, what you should wear for certain weather conditions, and even things that happen in nature as the weather changes.
Letter and number of the week
This is a great opportunity to start teaching letter and number recognition as well as letter sounds. As your child gets older you can even add to this by creating a word wall or an area for adding and subtracting.
Chalkboard and dry erase board
Maybe a little redundant, but my little loves options for chalk or markers. I purchased a small white board; I have also seen peel and stick white boards that would work as well. I made the chalkboard with scrap wood left from another project and chalkboard paint. Both pieces are attached the wall using Velcro strips.
Here are a few more ideas you could add:
Emotions
Patterns
Daily schedule
Job chart
